Lawn Services are here today. Got a chance to point out our new plantings before they got the chop. 'Tarped' off both front corners of the porch. Still waiting on our gutter guy for a response and this will keep heavy splash-back from hitting the corner column bases and porch deck. Battling some winged ants (not termites, thankfully) that have been munching on some compromised wood in a decorative piece on the right side porch railing. As soon as they are kaput, I'll start repairs. Had a whole lot of plants that Bethanie (Unit #5) got from a friend's garden. Some were put in (largely at front tree bases) but other's dried out in the sun over the past couple of weeks. Used them to top gravel and rocks in the 'ravine' that was developing along the left driveway entrance. Viable plants were placed on top. With the root bases and growing plants on top we may have a nice solution to that looming issue . Will water and watch! Used our remaining 'Resolva...

The front porch continues to improve with a few more additions and a whole lot of cushions. The lobby has a new area rug and some additions to the furniture (on loan from Unit 2). We are also in the process of spot cleaning (where possible) public area walls and hanging loaner art. A porch rug was also added today (also on loan). Gives our entrance the sort of drama it deserves. Some new day lilies have been added to the bare patch by the front (right) bushes. Thanks to Bethanie in Unit 5 for rescuing these from a friend's garden. They are rebounding from the shock of transplanting nicely and are due for some deadheading and a judicious trim. Lawn was mowed last July 3rd so we expect a visit soon. The rest of the 'usual suspects' around the building are putting in their summer finery. The stars of the entrance way, however are the two lovely Hibiscus in the antique planters. Many thanks to Jill in Unit 4 for these thriving additions. A lovely place to watch the sun go down.

Lawn was mowed today and looks just fine. Some new additions to the front porch including this wee little rocker. Hopefully, a tiny tot will do some porch rocking soon. Thinking of painting it white to go with the other two rockers. Jill's contributions to our formal planting pots are also coming along nicely - they certainly pretty up our entrance.

As it happens, quite lovely.

Porch furniture project is coming along nicely. Paint should be fully cured by Friday. Refurbished some old cushions and added some new ones as well. I hope you all get to enjoy what has turned out to be a very pretty place. Certainly, it will be a nice spot to have our next warm weather meeting! Going forward, if you are out there and rain is threatening - please be kind and pull anything with pillows out of the 'splashy-splashy' zones! Attended to some scratches, gouges and worn spots on the interior front door. Next goal is deep cleaning the exterior of both front doors so we can really see what needs doing. And some sunset views from the porch...

All plantings overhanging or touching wooden surfaces of front porch and columns were given an initial hard cutback. This should help minimize water damage but will be an ongoing process. Plantings on Greene Ave side of buildings that were interfering with walkways additionally given a hard trim. Low hanging branches from central tree in backyard thinned out to help get more sun into that area. Likewise, branches from trees on the 'moss hill' given a whacking for the same reason. More to come. Took out 8 sumac trees from the back stepped planting beds. Might be an idea to shore the beds up and use as mulch spot for clippings and the like. Would appreciate your thoughts on this... Round table, windsor chairs and two occasional tables spruced up (scrape, prime, paint) and looking quite nice.
